My name is Jade, and I am a 2nd year student, reading Geography BSc at King’s College. As part of this course I’ve taken up an amazing opportunity to study abroad, and my chosen destination is Singapore. I am here for six months and in this time I hope to embrace the many opportunities that Singapore has to offer, within the university campus and beyond. I hope to also travel around South East Asia, and see what the Eastern cultures are like. My choice for coming to Singapore is largely down to my previous travelling habits, which have revolved largely around travelling in the West, and so I felt like exploring a new area and taking myself out of my comfort zone. The name of the blog ‘Singapore Spice’ has a double meaning, firstly I reside in Cinnamon college here, which of course is a type of spice, as well as my alias on another blog being Spice! By creating this blog I firstly want to keep my family and friends posted about what I am experiencing over here. Secondly I’d like it to encourage all those who have never thought about travelling, to take up the opportunity and especially step out of what you know and embrace all the unknowns that come with staying in a new place – new languages, new foods, new cultures, new ways of life. Broaden your mind. The posts aren’t going to be deeply theoretical or anything, just an honest contemplation of what it is like to be in a foreign country, working hard and playing harder 😉
